Oxlajuj B’atz’ (Thirteen Threads) provides capacity-building skills training to 20 Maya women’s cooperatives throughout rural Guatemala. In the beginning stages of OB, an extensive needs assessment survey was conducted. After the surveys were tabulated, the results were organized into four areas of interest: Health and Well-Being, Artisan and Product Development, Democracy and Team-Building, and Small Business. Based on the results, we have created an integrated set of educational programs that address the women’s interests and needs organized as follows:
- Medicinal Plants
- Women’s Health
- Preventive Health
- Health Resources and Rights
Artisan and Product Development
- Product Quality
- Creativity and Design
- Capacity Building and New Products
- Democracy, Leadership, and Team Building Training
- Cooperative Group Organization
- Active Participation in OB
- Fund Management
- Legal Processes
- Business and Marketing Skills
- Micro-Credit Lending
Founded to encourage young women’s participation in women’s social and economic development within their communities.
